First, we must have our master files loaded, in this case, Oblivion.esm. After you've got it loaded, click on the 'World' Tab on the top of the screen and select 'World Spaces...'

The World Tab

Right click on the list and select 'New'. You will be prompted to enter a name for your new World Space. Note that this will not show in the game so you can name this whatever you want, though it is best to name it something meaningful. For this tutorial, I will create a plane of Oblivion, so I will name it "MyOblivionPlane".

That out of the way, you've got your world space! But we're far from finished.

There are still several options, they are:

  • Name: Type the name of the World Space that you want the player to see. (For my World Space, I'll name it "Wastes of Oblivion")
  • Parent Worldspace: If the World Space is supposed to be part of a larger world (such as a city World Space in the Tamriel World Space). (Set to 'NONE')
  • Music: Set the background music of the area you are designing. Usually, if it is a city, it is 'Public' music, if it is a dungeon or Plane of Oblivion, it would be 'Dungeon', and 'Default' is used in most other cases. (Set to 'Dungeon')
  • Sharable Data:
  • Climate: Sets what kinds of weather that are in the World Space. (Set to "Obliviondefaultclimate")
  • Water: Sets the kind of water you'll see at the 0 level. Can be lava. (Set to "OblivionLavaTest01")
  • Can't Fast Travel From Here: Checks whether or not you can fast travel from this location. (Checked)
  • Can't Wait: Checks whether or not you can wait ('T' key, as in rest for hours) in this area. (unchecked)
  • No LOD Water: Checks whether or not the player can see distant water. Probably faster when checked. (unchecked)
  • Oblivion Worldspace: Checks whether or not the World Space is part of Oblivion. Should be checked if player is to remove a sigil stone, thus destroying the plane and removing it from their save game (for memory reasons). (Checked)
  • Small World: Should be checked, can speed up processing for smaller World Spaces. (Checked)

Several options

After tweaking these options to fit our plane of Oblivion, click OK and then you should save. Your World Space should now appear in the scroll-down list in the cell view window.

Next, we will see how to adjust the land height using both the heightmap and landscape editors.
