Also please try to contact the bylined author to discuss the situation. Bylines are considered detrimental to the goals of the Wiki, but the authors need to have their say in what happens to the article. Prior to the date above, the rules regarding bylines were unclear and unenforced, and so authors may have had reasonable expectations of rights to their article which should be respected.

Articles written in August 2007 or later should simply have the byline removed. A note should be placed in the Talk page explaining the situation, as well as on the bylined author's Talk page. The rules have been made clear at this point, this tag is only for the sake of avoiding ex post facto.
