Talk:A beginner's guide, lesson 3 - The external world
Questions[edit source]
"I have found the Prima Guide invaluable for this since it gives the location of all the dungeons, buildings, .." What is the "Prima Guide" mentioned here? I don't see a reference anywhere. --Clearance 08:58, 18 November 2010 (EST)
- The Prima Guide is the official game guide (this one here), it's published by Prima Games, hence the "Prima". The UESP also has an excellent list of places.

Hi There Tom,
This is such an invaluable tutorial that you have decided to write for us aspiring modders. I have learned so much in this short space of time. Well done!
However i have a question about continuous linking. I followed you guide with regard to lining up the upper and lower parts of the Skingrad Upper Interior and they appear to be quite seamless. I haven't added an animated door between them yet, as I wanted to play in game to see if I had lined things up ok. For some reason though, when I want to step through the doorway where the two interiors meet, I am met with some kind of "invisible wall" for lack of a better term. I cant seem to walk through the archway.
Do you have any idea as to what I might be doing wrong? Maybe you could add this as a troubleshooting footnote, in case others are having the same problem. I look forward to an answer soon so I can carry on with your awesome tutorials! :D
Kind Regards,
Rael Harris
- NB: I'm currently on Lesson 3 if that helps.
- It may be that the archway has an invisible wall associated with it. Or that it's too small/your character is too large? Which archway piece are you using? What race? I can't guarantee I'll be able to help, though, and your question would likely get an answer more quickly on the Forums.
- Also, please sign posts on the Wiki with ~~~~, thanks!

Problems with Oblivion.ini[edit source]
I hope I'm doing this right, I'm new to all of this but I wanted to point out that my computer will not allow me to edit the oblivion.ini, it says the location is invalid when I try notepad. When I try Wordpad it says it will not allow this change. Can you perhaps help me?
- Hi,
- Though I am a newbie to this Wiki as well, I might help you a bit. Yes, you are doing it right ;-). Every contribution is welcome! Just some hints:
- - I added a title to your request (see above)
- - it is recommended to sign your posts by appending ~~~~ to the end of it (yes, just 4 tilde signs; they will be automatically replaced with your user name on saving). Find more information in the easy-to-read Syntax Guide and the Style Guide
- Now to your question:
- - What's the full location of the .ini file?
- - Have you right-clicked the .ini to check if it is write-protected?
- - It might be a good idea to post your question at the Bethsoft Oblivion Forums in the Hardware and Software issues section, or at the TESNexus forum.
