Updates to Gimp Plugin effective?[edit source]

The DDS-Plugin for Gimp has seen lots of updates the last few months, including stated improvement on MipMap-Quality - is it still necessary to use an external tool? --Elim Garak 02:45, 23 June 2008 (EDT)

"Credits"[edit source]

As per this discussion, the community here feels that "by so-and-so" lines on articles run contrary to the goal of the Wiki and discourage others from editing and improving an article, since it seems to claim ownership. The History pages are typically sufficient for credit, though a small blurb on the bottom of the page thanking Chuey for the original article would also be acceptable, so long as it is clear that the article is still open for improvement from anyone who has the knowledge to make it better.

Chuey, since I don't want to simply remove it, since you most likely were unaware (the majority of articles on this Wiki have not been updated to remove said credits), I would much rather give you the opportunity to respond. If there is no problem, it would be appreciated if you removed the credits. If you would like to discuss the issue further, please do so on the Community Portal. Thank you.

Sure, no problem, I'll remove. I have no problem with that.
Does the signature at the bottom also get removed? I'll remove that also if I need to.

OK, well, here's the deal. Another author was rather upset at the fact that we wished to remove bylines (or, perhaps more accurately, the fact that he had not had the opportunity to give input on the discussion), and so we've revisited that discussion. Too many people missed it where it was originally, so I've started a thread here. You're welcome to offer any opinions you like.
You are also welcome to leave your signature on the article if you wish, at least until the discussion I linked above is considered finished. However, if you do not feel particularly strongly about them, I do believe it is in the Wiki's best interest that they be removed. That way no one will feel uncomfortable about updating or improving this article. The Wiki is supposed to be public, and people are supposed to be able to edit articles. I feel that bylines hinder this. If you feel otherwise, however, as I said, then we can at the least wait until the conclusion of the discussion.

I agree with you. I hope people edit the article I posted and improve it. I don't want to discourage that. I'll join the thread and support the removal of credits.
