Reason for removing Template Warning[edit source]

Essentially I removed it for the same reason bylines are no longer allowed on the wiki - they create ownership for a page and create an atmosphere where someone has to ask themselves if they're good enough before editing. And really, the same goes for all pages but we don't need to warn people - if they make a mistake it can be rolled back and/or corrected.--Haama 14:06, 3 April 2008 (EDT)

I disagree, strongly. Anyone is welcome to edit the page so long as they know what they're doing. The point isn't to try and claim ownership, it's to let people know that they're jumping into to something significantly more complex than a normal page.--Speedo 15:28, 3 April 2008 (EDT)
I agree with Haama, and also strongly. There is a right way and a wrong way to do what you're trying to accomplish, and I think this is the wrong way. That warning is clearly designed to scare off users - not desirable on a Wiki, no matter how "important" the article is (exception: things that are that important get locked - but that's not the case here). We have an active enough editorial team to catch problems, I think.
If you feel the need for a warning, I think it should be something more diplomatic. I leave the exact wording up to you, but I would strongly recommend looking at how Wikipedia phrases the warnings on some of its more important Templates.
I really don't think this is necessary however. The Template is more complicated than a normal page, and as with all Templates could conceivably affect multiple pages at once, but I don't particularly feel that it needs a warning. Mistakes on that page are not a big problem - reverts are fun and easy! The warning just does not seem necessary.

Well, since there hasn't been a response, I'm removing the warning for now. It can be re-added, though reworded, later, if necessary.
