World Space: Cluttering the land
For cluttering the land, we will first have to texture the landscape. Open the landscape editor window and start texturing the land with textures that start with the string "TerrainHDOblivion" meaning Oblivion terrain.
Cover the land in Oblivion texture. Try to blend different types to create dramatic effescts. Texture the ground near the lava's edge with the texture "TerrainHDOblivionLava01" to somewhat blend the lava with the land (So the rock doesn't go for 100 feet then end abruptly in glowing red hot lava).
After you're finished, we have to make the islands more hostile looking. First, we'll add a Tower ("CitadelTowerCenterPiece") to one island and an Oblivion Gate ("OblivionGatetoTamriel") to the other. If you can't find enough room for them, make room with the landscape editor. Leave their entrances clear and accessible, and let's just keep to one tower for the present.
Now decorate the land with several jagged rocks and ruins. Feel free to modify the land as you go. Use the following as a guide as to where to find the objects you need:
WorldObjects...
- Static...
- Oblivion...
- This is where you will find ruins, towers, claws, and bridges.
- Rocks...
- OblivionPlane...
- This is where you'll find rocks, rock walls, and rock platforms.
- Flora...
- Oblivion...
- This is where you'll find the plants you see in Oblivion.
- Containers...
- Oblivion...
- This is where you'll find the containers you see in Oblivion (fleshy pods, the punished, etc...)
- Activator...
- Oblivion...
- Environment...
- This is where you'll find clouds of smoke for exteriors and switches for interiors.
- Clutter...
- This is where you'll find Blood fountains, Magicka essences, landmines, turrets, and avalanch rocks.
- Architecture...
- This is where you'll find extending bridges, and war gates.
Remember, make it look under-worldish, not to mean badly done of course. Oblivion is supposed to be Tamriel's equivilant of hell, as stated on The Elder Scrolls website.
Consider using some of these objects too:
- "HangingCorpse01CONTAINER" through to "HangingCorpse05CONTAINER"
- "DeadSkeleton"
- "BloodDecal01", "BloodDecal02", and "Bloodsplatter01"
Make sure you have the occasional Magicka Essence, Blood Fountain, or loot while you're making planes of Oblivion, just to be fair to the player. Try not to use loose objects such as shields or swords, just stick to containers for Oblivion World Spaces. Also, our two islands should be connected so the player can get to the citadel tower.
For the purpose of this tutorial, I shall also eplain trees. Trees are special World Objects with animations for leaves waving in the trees, and therefore cannot be rotated. Normally, trees would not be found in Oblivion, but this a tutorial showing how to develop you're landscape, Oblivion or no. Let's place a burnt tree in our plane of Oblivion, shall we? Drag the tree "TreeKvatchBurnt" into the Render Window and place the tree somewhere near the gate. Notice how you can't rotate the tree even when you hold right-click? Continue to "dress" the landscape until you are satisfied.
When you're done, add the dark vertex colour around the necessary objects and then we move on to...
