Morrowind Volume Bug Fixed[edit source]

So, does StreamMusic still set Music Volume to the max?
Dragoon Wraith TALK 21:34, May 7, 2006

No, the volume doesn't seem to be affected (In Morrowind the volume wasn't set to the max but to the Windows Media Player setting that could've even been lower...)--JOG 15:39, 31 May 2006 (EDT)
Interesting. Well, either way, it's fixed now.

Doesn't Work?[edit source]

I don't manage to play audio files with StreamMusic. I always face the same effect: The current music fades out, pauses for some seconds, and then another track from the same type (public, dungeon or default, depending what is defined for the cell) starts playing again. According to the documentation, this should only happen when the track to play cannot be found, e.g. due to an invalid filename or path. But after hours of experimenting, I am absolutely sure that my file path is correct! I tried every possible combination, including both full and relative paths, both custom and vanilla sound files, both forward and backward slashes, both mp3 and wav files etc. I also checked this on three different computers, always with the same effect. My sound system is working fine, I am even using BetterMusicSystem and SoundCommands without any issues, so I suppose that this is not a general sound problem. Disabling BetterMusicSystem and SoundCommands doesn't help either. I am wondering whether anyone else knows of this problem?

I don't, though I know Oblivion's pretty picky about the sound files it uses; you might have the bitrate on the file wrong, or something like that? I don't really know. Anyway, I'd suggest asking on the Forums; no one here is going to be able to tell you, I suspect.
Good luck! Also, you can sign using ~~~~ if you'd like, rather than copying mine. Of course, if you like mine, you can also use it - if you go to My Preferences, select the Raw Signatures textbox, and put that code into the Nickname field, using ~~~~ will insert the code; that's how I do it. The Wiki also generally decided that signatures should go at the end of posts, though that was after I'd made the above comments...
Dragoon Wraith TALK 14:22, 23 July 2010 (EDT)
ooops..., sorry! I didn't know how to put in the signature correctly, so I just tried to do my best with copying and adapting, because I thought this is how it works. Should have spent more time getting familiar with the standards. I hope that it suits better now. I corrected my signature above as well :) And, concerning the sound issue: Yes, I have posted it to the forum [1] now. Although, thanks for your fast reply, and also for adding the title to my post!

Heh, trust me, what you had is way better than like 99% of the first posts we get here. I certainly appreciate that you tried! But you copied my timestamp, heh - if you use ~~~~, it will automatically insert the current timestamp, which is a good thing.
As for those forums, those are the ones associated with TES Nexus - a great fansite. I suspect you'll get an answer there pretty quick. But if you're looking for another place to ask, my link is to the official Elder Scrolls Forum for the CS, that's also a good place to try.
Dragoon Wraith TALK 18:06, 23 July 2010 (EDT)
Yes, that's a good idea! Now I have started to discuss it on both forums. As the issue is more complex than expected, it has already been split up into different threads. For anyone interested, see here[2], here[3] and here[4]

Success!

Well then, the problem is solved! It had to do with conflicts between StreamMusic and EnhancedMusicControl (which is part of BetterMusicSystem). For anyone interested, read this thread [5] for details.

@Dragoon: Do you think it is a good idea to add the information I found to this StreamMusic article?

Jaime74 13:06, 25 July 2010 (EDT)

Certainly! Always feel free to improve articles, if there are more details necessary for getting StreamMusic to work than found on the page, definitely go ahead an update it. Congrats on solving the issue!
It does sadden me that there were apparently people out there who knew this, but never felt the need to update the Wiki...
Dragoon Wraith TALK 15:39, 25 July 2010 (EDT)
I just added it! And I'm still struggling with more sound issues (I guess I've opened Pandora's Soundbox...) ;)

How to ensure compatibility with other music related mods?[edit source]

Meanwhile, I have managed to make one of my own mods play custom tracks in custom cells, independent of whether the user runs vanilla sound, SoundCommands, EnhancedMusicControls, or BetterMusicSystem. I am using OBSE functions (isPluginInstalled and questExists) to detect which mods are present, and then start the tracks in the most appropriate way. This seems to work fine, so I think I'll create a tutorial page about that (as soon as I find the time).
