Besides, the permissions and ownership inside the Oblivion directory can be more permissive than those controlling "\program files[(x86)]\". Users shouldn't be forced to install programs in random locations on their disk just because of new security features. Dead link[edit source]
- ElChE's Oblivion Automatic Content Validator 1.1.0 (also called Automatic Content Validator) will create an ArchiveInvalidation.txt file for you automatically
The link is broken and I'm not sure that the utility named is actually available at all (possibly included in the functionality of a different utility by ElChE?)
BAIN[edit source]
Addition of unproven or experimental new features, even those made by the Monkey God himself, should be described as such (i.e., new and unproven). This is exactly how we have treated other major new developments such as BSA-redirection, which eventually became the preferred method, so BAIN is in good company here. I will be revising Wrye's additions to make this clear.

hosting providers on the list of lists[edit source]
We seem to be getting a lot of these lately. If you want to add something to the list of lists it should follow the gist of the other links. The list does NOT include hosting providers. Those can be posted in the linked official forum thread.
Anyway, I've removed this one by Slug:
Tha main reason is I'm unsure what this site actually does. It does not appear to be a guide, but rather a hosting site for "lost" mods (i.e., no longer available on other sites). This sounds good in theory unless the mods were posted without permission of the authors, who may have intentionally removed them from other sites. --dev_akm 12:07, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
I've removed this addition by AXEWATER:
- Oblivion Mods community -- A site reviewing mods on a regular basis; FAST DOWNLOADS from this server.
It reads like an advertisement for a hosting provider, which does not belong in the list of mod lists.
If the hosting provider matures and stops uploading mods without permission from their creators, then perhaps it should get a mention in the hosting provider section. Otherwise it should only be posted in the BethSoft forums pinned thread on download sites.
Feedback welcome. --dev_akm 11:12, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
- Ah, sorry dev, I'd noticed these but wasn't sure what you policy on them was.
- There's nothing that can be done about it, really, other than policing. Would you like me to remove any similar additions if people add them in the future (and I notice, which I can't guarantee that I will). I assume you have this page Watched - you should probably check the History page daily, considering, if possible.
- Also, did you get my PM on the ESF?
- Dragoon Wraith TALK 12:34, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- Thanks! It's no biggie. I do have it watched, so I get them fixed fairly fast (at least during the week), but by all means if you see anything that doesn't make sense feel free to fix it. Maybe I missed your PM. I'll check now. --dev_akm 15:55, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
improvements[edit source]
- It's wonderful, thorough, clear, well written. However, this article could be Wiki'd better... In some places, there was still UBBC code (I removed these), and there are a ton of external links where internal links to articles might be more appropriate. I don't know enough about most of these to switch them, however.
- Also, why is it a category? --DragoonWraith 12:06, 24 May 2006 (EDT)
Thanks for fixing that stuff, DragoonWraith! I tried to convert everything, but I guess I missed some stuff.
On the external links issue, I'm unclear on exactly what you are suggesting. Can you elaborate?
I'm new to Wikis and the Wikipedia documentation referenced here is heavily geared toward categories, so what would you suggest as a better alternative to having it as a category? Basically I just couldn't figure out any other way to give it its own page, so I'm completely open to suggestions.
Thanks!

- Dragoon Wraith TALK 17:51, 2 June 2006 (EDT): Well, it was moved to a page, which is good, however, there are still a lot of external links - you link to the websites of the various tools instead of linking to their wiki pages. For instance, instead of Oblivion Mod Manager ([http://timeslip.chorrol.com/ Oblivion Mod Manager]), use Oblivion Mod Manager ([[Oblivion Mod Manager]]), and link to that article, which will have links to Timeslip's homepage. This is generally accepted wiki style, and encourages a more thorough wiki rather than simply linking to other sites.

I noticed the link to "free utility like WinGrep." was broken I Wayback'ed it thus web.archive.org May 08, 2007
--Dev akm 13:35, 14 September 2007 (EDT) WinGrep link works fine as always for me. Must've been a temporary problem.
moved to article from category[edit source]
I moved this page to a regular article from a category. Move page didn't appear to work for this case. The pre-move history can be found here. -- Nezroy 17:59, 24 May 2006 (EDT)

Did some cleanup, fixing local links, etc. It's starting to look more like it belongs here. :) --Dev akm 20:08, 24 May 2006 (EDT)
The Patch[edit source]
I've got a question regarding the patch: You said that it fises some textures in the BSA files? What if we decompressed the BSA files? Would the patch still work? TheImperialDragon 00:49, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
Note: If you're using Wrye Bash, you probably won't see a date problem with Oblivion.esm, since by default Bash resets modified times to their proper value every time Bash is opened. OTOH, if you've changed the default setting, Bash still allows you to directly edit the date. --Wrye 12:20, 8 June 2006 (EDT)
Typo[edit source]
the Basic Animation Tutorial you mentioned has nothing to do with 3Ds max, but all with nifskope. --Sarkandar 19:20, 5 June 2007 (EDT)
Thanks. Sorry I just now noticed this comment. --Dev akm 13:19, 14 September 2007 (EDT)
Corrections / Possible Corrections[edit source]
Regarding BSA Redirection
"any BSA file containing at least one texture should work"
The OBMM BSA Redirection functionality registers what appears to be an empty BSA file, unless you happen to have some textures in data/textures/faces, though as far as I've ever seen it works perfectly.

Xbox tools?[edit source]
Would it be possible to relese the xbox toolkit/editer or authenticator? i have tes4 for my pc and xbox and ide really like to move mods between the two
- First, new additions go on the bottom of the page. Second, please sign all comments on Talk pages with ~~~~ at the end of your comment.
- As to your question, user-made mods cannot go on the XBox, period. This would be a breach of Microsoft's EULA and will not be supported by Bethesda or Microsoft, and may very well be illegal. Further attempts to discuss doing so will be removed, and persistence in that line of inquiry may see your account facing administrative penalties (Warnings, Bans, etc). Betheasda-made DLCs may be bought and downloaded for the XBox through Live, but you must buy and download them separately for the XBox and PC versions of the game (so you must buy each twice if you want both copies to have all the mods).
- If you have both copies of the game, you are recommended to simply use the PC version. The PC version, with mods, is far more full-featured than the XBox version.

What mod is that?[edit source]
I was watching a video on YouTube called "Oblivion:Facing Mannimarco[Mannimarco Revisited]" and noticed that the person in that video was holding their weapon differently(when running the character held the sword at their side). I would really like to know what this mod is called and where to download it.Lord Sheogorath 22:06, 20 January 2010 (EST)
SArchiveList lenght[edit source]
This FAQ states "because the SArchiveList cannot be more than 255 characters long" So i got this copy of Ob GOTY (S Isles included), and checked the ini file, section SArchiveList, it has 291 characters. Is there any section in the ini file that controls the lenght of the SArchiveList, can we get it further than 291? thank you --Gan10 02:16, 10 March 2011 (EST)
