How do I make a black flame effect

Would like to have a black flame effect (black version of the atronachflame effect) so I can place on an npc to make it look like he's made from shifty shadows. Been experimenting with the shader effects interface... eek! I am not the most technically aware spod unfortunately. :P If there is a simpler way, I'm all for it! Have solved the problem.

Used GIMP to change the color of the fireflameparticle.dds to black. Then changed the settings to default on the effects shader interface and saved the result as effectdarkflame. Then made a magic effect script using the effectdarkflame, and put that in an ability/spell as a scripts effect. Then gave the ability to my npc, who now emits and wanders around in a mass of dark flame, so he looks (as intended) like he's made of shadow.

Also made one which was a great effect of using the 'apply to skin' option for another npc, using the floorsymbol01lit.dds - so he has runes scrolling across his skin. Kinda nifty. Have yet to get someone to emitt runes but there we go... ;) Laotsekung 23:31, 8 December 2006 (EST)

Black light using only the CS[edit | edit source]

It is fair to mention another way to create black light using only the CS: create a new light object, change its color to white and check the “Negative” box in its object window.

Unfortunately, the results are quite different for HDR and Anti-Aliasing video settings (good results for HDR, bad results for AA).

Therefore, this technique is kind of useless for shared mods as it would limit the number of players using the mod. May be useful for personal mods, thou.
