This is a page written by a beginner and so, presumably, for a beginner. I looked on the site for ages but could find nothing about Fort building. I find this surprising because
- 1: Caves are boring and
- 2: The categorization for forts is shiney and bright.
- The first thing you must remember to do is to sort out lighting details and other in the edit window of the cell you are working on (which should be a new cell, incidentally). It's exactly the same procedure as My First Dungeon. Lighting does need practice to get perfect.
- One of the most prominent problems with forts is how difficult it is to line up the pieces without grey spaces, bad artwork or overlapping. First thing to do is turn snap-to-grid on. Keeping the Z values the same is a must to avoid stress-related chocolate eating.
- Fort pieces are, despite being alphabetical, in no actual order. Finding the right pieces for the dungeon is just a matter of practice and memory. They can all be found under World Objects --> Static --> Dungeons --> Fort Ruins --> Dungeon.
- Similarly important doors for forts are found under World Objects --> Door --> Fort Ruins. For changing cells, doors with the word 'load' should be used. It also good to point out that for there to be no grey spaces around you door, a door arch must be used. There are two types, old and aged. An example would be RFNdoorarch01. I don't know what RFN means.
- Pieces with multiple exits have the word 'way' somewhere in their name, for example RFN3wayROOM02 and such.
- 'Unit fixes' are usually small strips of scenery used to hide not-quite-perfect overlapping, and should be used thusly.
- Some pieces have no floor, and some have no wall. They are usually, therefore called something with the word of what they do have on them, eg- RFhubrockwall1D. They should be used in conjuncture with each other.
- Sometimes when you click on a piece it may appear not to appear. It probably has, but the render view is on the wrong angle to see it, so don't panic.
- Ctrl D will duplicate items. Holding down control and selecting items will allow for more than 1 item to be selected.
- Despite the sheer vastness of files available, the actual rooms it is possible to create is woefully small- there are lots of things to make them unique, however. The general idea is to use what you have- and rotate the pieces as you see fit.
- Transition (trans) pieces are very useful for changes in rooms
