::Thanks to the wonders of [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx Process Monitor], I was able to quickly come to an educated guess that the problem was with the SysListView32 class.  Googling ''that'' along with the word "beep" quickly led me to [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944150 this] description of the problem.  Method #2, deleting the registry key '''HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\CCSelect\.Current''' solved the problem immediately.  Unfortunately, any editing of the current sound scheme in Vista seems to re-instate the key.  (It's unclear if this has any other effects on the current sound scheme, but it didn't seem to with a quick test.) --[[User:RobinHood70|RobinHood70]] 05:24, 20 February 2009 (EST)
