How to include this in the wiki[edit source]

I think the best way to add this to the wiki is by a tutorial, a simple one that goes over the process of moving the starting location. And DragoonWraith, what do you mean by there must be a better way? A better way than moving the marker, than using MoveTo, or both?

This information is included in the Worldbuilding 101 tutorial in Part 4 at the bottom of the page. This information should be covered in a separate (short) tutorial and linked to from the heightmap editing tutorials instead of being placed at the end of a tutorial which is essentially about creating heightmaps using FWE. People are going to create their landscapes in a number of different ways using a number of different tools but still need access to this information.
Also, it is impossible to change the player's starting location without affecting the main quest story line and all of the quests/scripts associated with it, so it might be worthwhile to discuss the differences between different types of TCs (as any mod changing the player's starting location is essentially a TC since it changes the main story arc). New starting locations for total conversions which do not rely on the Oblivion storyline and Tamriel worldspace are different from those that take place in Tamriel, but which develop completely new story lines. In the first case, the chargen scripts and quest stages can be streamlined to remove extraneous details (about the living/dead status of NPCs, etc.) because the TC won't be referencing characters or quests from vanilla Oblivion. In the second, these references must be retained to avoid breaking any quests/scripts/etc. If a modder creates a TC which is accessed via spell/door/etc., from Tamriel, in which the possibility of returning to Tamriel exists, at least in principle, these factors must be kept in mind, also. Questions like: What is a Total Conversion? How do I create a TC without breaking any quests/saved games? Will the player have to start a new game to play my TC? Will players be able to move back and forth between Tamriel and my worldspace?, etc., need to be addressed. The entire subject of TCs is almost completely undocumented or dealt with in only a piecemeal fashion, in spite of the fact that it is one of the main attractions of modding. This is an area I am studying myself, and if I come up with anything substantial/useful I will add it. I just thought I'd put in my two cents. TheMagician 12:02, 29 March 2008 (EDT)
