Talk:Loading Screen Images

From the Oblivion ConstructionSet Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

In the bsa is a photoshop file named "load_troll.psd" with the frame-elements used by the original loadscreens.

Anyway did you actually get the game to display new loadscreens? I thought nobody accomplished this so far.--JOG 00:32, 20 June 2006 (EDT)

Yes.--Snake 02:22, 20 June 2006 (EDT)
Well, how about explaining how?
Maybe in this forum-thread? http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=474813&hl=

Well, if they work, then I congratulate you! And thanks for sharing this info on the Wiki. And I want to thank you for doing all the research and experimentation to find this out. The Imperial Dragon 13:14, 20 June 2006 (EDT)

i know i can replace loading screens. i'm unsure of whether or not new ones can be added.--Snake 20:00, 20 June 2006 (EDT)

Here, could you provide a link to download your screen and I'll see what I can do? The Imperial Dragon 03:21, 21 June 2006 (EDT)

i can confirm now that adding your own loading screens is possible. i'll have more information on the article shortly.--Snake 04:25, 21 June 2006 (EDT)

Case sensitive? New loadscreens are case-sensitive while replacing old ones works fine with lower-case folders? Darn. I have to try that as once. Thanks for doing the research-work ;) --JOG 10:26, 21 June 2006 (EDT)
from what i can tell, i think it has to do with the CS. because if you just add a loadscreen from any folder in textures, it goes to the loadscreen category. but if you add it from Menus\Loading, it goes to the subcategories Menus>Loading. it does this same tomfoolery when adding static models, etc., too. what tipped me off was when i noticed that all the default texture paths were using caps.--Snake 10:40, 21 June 2006 (EDT)
Could you explain what you do in that macro, then I could try to reproduce it in Photoshop...--JOG 11:02, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

Huh?[edit source]

I've pretty much done everything in the tutorial to the letter; DXT5 Non-Mip DDS format, dimensions, case-sensitive destination folder and all, and I'm still getting the Elven Armour default... any ideas?

Thanks.

Update[edit source]

Does anyone know which part of this article needs updating? Or is it an overall update that is needed? --ShadowDancer 03:44, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

Nice to see you around, ShadowDancer. The answer is in the history...--Haama 12:10, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

Reformat[edit source]

--Webstalor 03:57, 20 July 2008 (EDT) I've given this article a thorough overhall. I haven't updated or changed any of the information, but I have changed around the sections to make it more organised. I will be adding more info for those using GIMP shortly, because we don't all use photoshop.

True, but some of us don't know our way around in GIMP and would be totally lost. Glad to see that there is information on doing this with other utilities though. I just happened to have some knowledge of how to use Photoshop and spent a while figuring out how to reproduce the results from someone else so that I could make an automated process for those who do use Photoshop as well as leaving a manual description for how to go about it in case someone else wanted to do it by hand, translate it into another utility, or improve it.

Numerous Issues[edit source]

Now that I've been using this stuff for a while now I've realised something. Although this says quite plainly 'No Mip-Maps', when I use no mip-maps the game can't load it. When I do use mip-maps, it can. Just thought I'd say (As I've said above, I use the GIMP dds plugin).

Also, none of the dds files I've exported load very well. They are grainy and large, as if the aspect ratio was set to something extremely low. I've found no solutions, but I'm working on it.

In the mean-time, my only suggestion is open existing ones that export with the game, edit them, and then save them as a copy. That's all I've got (I haven't tried this yet, and it isn't a real solution).

AUTOMATE IN PHOTOSHOP[edit source]

The link for the .atn file doesnt work anymore!!! Plaese can you re-upload the file? Anyone still having the file? Im going to ask in other forums, but if you have it, please re-upload the file I need it!

Thanks in advance!

Rename?[edit source]

May I suggest renaming this page as "Loading Screen Images" as it only covers the image creation? --Ghastley 10:38, 25 April 2011 (EDT)

Done. Since the wiki motto is: "be bold" you may do these things yourself. Someone will undo your changes, or start a discussion if they disagree. Just explain on the talk page if the edit summary is insufficient. If you do this then almost everything is alright.
