Containers (Chests) - Need some help.[edit source]

In case someone comes across this. I have an issue I am trying to resolve.

I had created a chest in the Market District outside by one of the statues. The Chest I gave the Reference Editor ID of ChestClutterMyOwn. The base chest used was ChestClutterLower01.

I filled the chest with a few odds and ends, a few gold, a few arrows, ect. I set this chest to respawn.

During gameplay, I noticed that not only did the chest work, but I am finding the same exact item spawns in every chest in the Imperial City!

What did I do wrong? It is confusing me as I am not sure why it would cause the same items to spawn in every chest around Imperial City. (Such as in the Shacks near Waterfront District), all the chests now have the same items and same number of items. Please help :(

When you say that every chest in the IC has the same items, do you mean that literally every container has those items, or just the chests that look like yours? And by giving your chest a Reference Editor ID, are you referring to the name of the chest as it appears in the Object Window, or the one that appears in the topmost box when you double-click the chest in the render window? All chests that look the same as the one I had made. Still not figured it out, I had done this before without issues so I am unsure what I am doing wrong. And yep, I am taking about the top most editbox when you double click the container. I place the container near one of the statues in the Market District, then when I am in the Waterfront District (such as in the Abandoned Shack) the chests inside the shack all contain the same items as the chest I placed in the Market District.

Okay, that's the problem. The chests have the same items because they are all references to the same chest - ChestClutterLower01. What you want to do is double-click that chest in the Object Window, enter a new ObjectID for it, and then make whatever changes you want. That's the difference between creating a new reference to an existing object, and creating a new base object. Scruggs 09:50, 12 August 2006 (EDT)

I will give that a go later on and see how it goes. Thanks much for the help :)

Worked a charm, think I understand how it works now. At first I was under the impression that when you drag another instance of an item into the gameworld the ObjectID had to be the same, figured that was there to tell it to use that chest. Now I realize that once the new instance is created it can be given its own Unique ID and the reference for what texture for that object will still be used. Anyhow, thanks again m8, now I can continue experimenting and learning the editor.
