I just wanted to send a BIG thank you to Tom Dawson and anyone else who helped on the wiki beginners guide. I suffer from a form of dyslexia that makes it very had to learn via reading complicated text this guide was very plainly written and the step by step layout made it simple to understand I can now finally use the CS and am very very happy about it so thank you very very much the beginners guide was a wonderful help.
== Version Specific? ==
Please pardon my ignorance, but are the Tutorials specific to a certain version? My computer rejects the Patches and so I am forced to use the original version and the guide describes things that aren't on my version. If I am wrong, please can it be said in the Intro to warn other newbies about this pitfall. Also can there be pictures to help guidings? I find it hard to work with out pictures.
: I don't think this guides is version specific. Are you sure you are following the guides exactly? The Construction Set is a difficult thing (at least in the beginning) so it isn't impossible that you've made a mistake somewhere. If you would like to specify more exactly what's not showing up/showing up different it would be easier to help you. PS: Problem with the patches? Make sure you download the right language! =) --Dr_Phil 17:13, 12 February 2009 (EST)
::The new version of the CS is generally only required for scripting with [[:Category:Functions (CS 1.2)|v1.2 Functions]], and perhaps some OBSE functions (not sure). The old version of the CS, in fact, can do some things the new version can't - like create mods that can be run in unpatched games, and create .LIP lip-synch files. Just make sure you're using the old version of the CS if you're using an unpatched version of Oblivion.

Planning Some Format Work[edit source]
Since this is by and large the most useful place for a new modder to start reading, I thought I would go through the entire guide and do some minor editing of grammar, as well as adding internal links where appropriate. This will, if I think it would be helpful, include links to articles outside the Beginner's Guide, in the spirit of a wiki. This will inevitably require a flood of minor edits, which I will flag as such to avoid overwhelming any administrators.
As of this post I am just starting. This will surely take some time. In the meantime, I was hoping someone could provide a link on this discussion page to the easiest way to contact Tom Dawson, for the sake of any readers who might want to contact him for help or advice.
I am also curious if Lesson 8 is still in the works, by Tom Dawson or anyone else?

- I haven't seen much of the guide, only lesson 6 and 7, which I put on the Wiki, but improvement is always welcome and judging by what you've done on the Wiki so far I'm glad you're doing this.
- I've previously contacted Tom Dawson (dtom) on the BSF, you can find his profile here.

Beginners Guide Thank You[edit source]

Version Specific?[edit source]
Please pardon my ignorance, but are the Tutorials specific to a certain version? My computer rejects the Patches and so I am forced to use the original version and the guide describes things that aren't on my version. If I am wrong, please can it be said in the Intro to warn other newbies about this pitfall. Also can there be pictures to help guidings? I find it hard to work with out pictures.

- The new version of the CS is generally only required for scripting with v1.2 Functions, and perhaps some OBSE functions (not sure). The old version of the CS, in fact, can do some things the new version can't - like create mods that can be run in unpatched games, and create .LIP lip-synch files. Just make sure you're using the old version of the CS if you're using an unpatched version of Oblivion.
- However, while v1.2 of the CS is not that important, v1.2.416 of Oblivion is rather important... if I were you, I would try very hard to get the patch to work.
