Thanks![edit source]

This is a great giude although you have left us at finding out how to do some parts ourself, e.g. the northmarker, and a few other things you have left us gussing. I would not be able to make a guide for mod making and i thank you for doing so.

Great Guide

Yes its quite awesome thanks very much for making it.Only one problem i request help with.Every time I save and exit it tells me about nif. files and when i activate it and play it doesn't show up.So none of my mods show up.Makes me sad I panic and feel bad. please Email me at Etrunksmathers@yahoo.com. please

Some questions[edit source]

Some things to consider 1.) although you told us about how to add the marker (you neglected to tell us where to find it though) you left out a few things. When I read that and added a north marker to my first map I immediately wondered what exactly the north marker did. I mean I imagine it points north I can understand that much. But how do I know which way is north exactly. I mean if I entered my dungeon headed southwest then I should be facing the north marker towards the door and rotate it accordingly right, or maybe that doesn't matter? Do I have to put it inside my dungeon somewhere or can I have it hanging out side of the dungeon in mid air somewhere? 2.) You mentioned testing your game in-game, how do you do that? There was no explanation for that part of it. Most level editors I've worked with had a test function so you didn't have to start the game up on its own to test your map. You could just bring up your map in the game directly from the editor. Is TES the same or different? I am glad you wrote what you did so far cause its helped quite a bit, so thanks. --Hallowedwarrior 16:28, 15 September 2008 (EDT)

First, please sign comments with ~~~~ - that will insert your username and the date and time, to make it easier to follow the conversation. I've done this for you for your first post.
Secondly, NorthMarkers are the things that tell the cell which way is north. They don't really have to be pointed any particular direction, but generally you try to match up the direction with north from outside, to keep things consistent. They can be placed anywhere in the cell; they're invisible within the game. So they can be off to the side or within the walls, it doesn't matter.
As for testing in-game, you first have to activate your mod. If you don't know how to do that, I recommend that you read the Oblivion Mods FAQ, it should explain that in great detail for you. Anyway, then you load up the game normally, and you go to your cell. To save time, use the Console Command CoC (center on cell), with the ID of your cell (note that this is the Editor ID, not the Form ID or the Name). It is generally best to create a separate testing character for this, and not to save after testing, because having an old savegame with an updated mod can, in certain situations, cause odd problems that are difficult to diagnose.
I hope that answers your questions; welcome to the Wiki!

NorthMarker not working[edit source]

For some reason, I kept trying to add the NorthMarker to the basement but nothing happens! Is there another way to add objects? Thanks, Tradereddy 18:46, 14 December 2008 (EST)

Do you have marker viewing enabled? Try pressing 'M' to turn Markers on (you may have pressed it accidentally and turned off the markers). Either way, though, the NorthMarker should appear in the list of references in the cell (in the Cell Window).
Other than that, you'll have to describe what you're doing, because this is the way to add items. There isn't any other way, but this should work.

What I have done is simply drag and drop onto the render window. Is this a problem? Tradereddy 19:35, 16 December 2008 (EST)

No, that's exactly what you should be doing. Did you try pressing 'M'? If that's not it, I'm afraid I don't know the answer; you might try the Forums.

I'll just solve by deleting everything in a cell but the NorthMarker. Tradereddy 21:52, 17 December 2008 (EST)

linked doors not working.[edit source]

I have made a large strucksher near the ip prison. i gave it a dore, then made a dongon in a difrent cell. then i linked the dores together. it seems to work in the editor when i dubbel click the markers. But when i start my game and use the dore, the game tells me it is seald. what did i do wrong? i dont have the lock checked or any thing els.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question. And I fear I may be the only one to see it.
It's a good question, but you're going to have to try the Forums. You're much more likely to get an answer more quickly there.
Sorry.

Not working[edit source]

I've done everything up to unlocking the basement door in the Chorrol inn, however when I load the mod into the game, the door is still locked and is considered trespassing if I try to open it. Is there a reason why it's not working? Juji 18:26, 13 January 2010 (EST)

Never mind, I've just read I need to patch the game to 1.2. Will mods still work if I patch the game with the UOP? Juji 18:26, 13 January 2010 (EST)
