Under Body Data in the article it says "Specify body model and texture files...". Is it even possible to change the body model (other than the tail)? --Stickman 14:20, 26 March 2006 (EST)

I found that in the Object Window, under WorldObjects>Characters there are a bunch of EditorIDs which point to a few body NIFs. I think the same NIFs are used for most of the races, with only the textures overridden.

Interestingly, the StarkRealityFemaleUpperBody object has a model value of "Characters\_Male\FemaleUpperBody.NIF", and I noticed that in the meshes archive there is a FemaleUpperBodyNude.NIF. To me this just begs for a nude mod.  ;)

However, I haven't figured out how to assign a new NIF to one of those objects. The dialog box that comes up has a button to assign the NIF file, but I can't get it to do anything other than give me an error message "Invalid path".--Mozz 21:37, 26 March 2006 (EST)

Update: I figured out the "Invalid path". The NIF you select must be inside a subdirectory of your Oblivion install directory. Once I moved the unpacked BSA contents into the game's Data subdirectory I was able to select from the built-in NIFs.--Mozz 21:47, 26 March 2006 (EST)

Update 2: Okay, that didn't work, but Gameplay>Settings... and editing sRaceFemaleUpperBodyModel did. I find it surprising that the same model is used for so many races and just textures are used to vary the appearance. But I guess it makes sense if you have some control over the parameters of the model. Hmm.--Mozz 22:08, 26 March 2006 (EST)

Help![edit source]

All the meshes and textures I want to choose from are very limited, like I only have characters/hair/khajithair, and many other things like this!

You have to extract the BSA files into your oblivion directory to select a stock texture. (see BSA Unpackers)

Needs Search Optimization[edit source]

Searching for "Race" doesn't show this page in the results. But it does for "Races". A little meta optimization will help -- shademe 05:00, 9 January 2009 (EST)

It does show up for me (nr 38 with all search options checked). Just not as a title match. There's nothing we can do about that (except changing the title to Race).

Added a Redirect from Race to Races. Unfortunately, the Search does not, by default, include redirects and apparently there is no way to make it do so (I asked them, they said they don't have any option to do that), so that's only somewhat helpful...

That's improvement anyways. Great job. -- shademe 05:58, 10 January 2009 (EST)

Small problem with reactions[edit source]

After creating multiple races with positive and negative reactions, I've found that many of the larger values have no effect. Is there some kind of cap, and, if so, does anybody know what it is?

Avian Mosquito 20:03, 18 April 2011 (EDT)

Unfortunately, I do not know, and worse still, I strongly doubt that anyone who does will check this page.
For your best bet at getting an answer, I'd try the Forums; sadly, the Talk pages on this Wiki never really caught on with the community.

Damn it. Well, I'll try testing it myself. I'll create a race with -100 to orcs and see if the merchant of Slash & Smash attacks me. If not, there's a cap, so I'll reduce until I find out what it is. I'll also search the settings and see if I can remove it. I'll post my findings in a couple hours.

Results:
My testing method is defunct. Once initial reactions are calculated, adding race reactions have no effect. I would have to create a new character for each test, and I'm not that devoted. I looked through testing and found no such setting, but there is a chance I overlooked it. There is a setting called "fdisptargetracemult" which might be related to race reactions, but it certainly isn't what I'm looking for. Maybe someday I'll figure it out, for now I'll just use smaller values.

There are fast-start mods that might help with that, if you ever feel inclined to try this again. A series of menus rather than the tutorial dungeon should help.
